As part of Orpington Literary Festival Tessa Dunlop shares the intimate and inspirational story of the final few women who served in World War II’s female army. It was a conflict Britain wanted to fight without conscripting women, but that proved a vain hope – soon a generation of girls were coming of age in khaki serving King and Country.
This lecture will include the letters, diaries, audio and videos of some of Britain’s oldest women, one of whom trained alongside a young Princess Elizabeth in 1945. ‘She was a quiet girl, she didn’t put herself forward...’ Come and hear the last word from an extraordinary Jubilee generation of Army Girls.
Dr Tessa Dunlop is a Sunday Times best selling historian and broadcaster who specialises in women, war and royalty.
