***Loyalty card offer correction and retraction - F HINDS Jewellery Cleaning Offer***
In the newsletter issued on Wed 4th September, a loyalty card offer has been worded incorrectly. The offer is for a free 'clean' and not for a free item of jewellery. Please present the loyalty card at F Hinds and you can enjoy having one piece of jewellery 'cleaned' for free.
Before Orpington had BID status, the Council were looking to close public toilets across the Borough and introduce a community Toilet scheme (CTS). (In fact some toilets in the borough have already closed) This involved finding volunteer businesses with a cash incentive of £1,000 per year with a maximum of £5,000 (five businesses) to open up their loos to the general public.
One of the items discussed while we were going through the BID process was that if we got BID status we would engage with LBB and convince them that, as a BID, we could take on the responsibility of running and maintaining them better than they are currently run at present as we felt the community shared scheme would not work for us in Orpington.
The good news is that this has now been agreed in principle and within the next couple of months, Orpington 1st will:
• Agree and sign over responsibility from the LBB
• LBB pay Orpington 1st £25k (£5k per year over five years - the term of the BID) this is what the LBB would of paid to do the community shared scheme
• Use the £25k to refurbish the toilets
• Clean, manage and maintain the toilets through the term of the BID
Walnuts Cinema Development
The ODEON Cinema development is on course!
The developers are ensuring that they have the right tenant mix for the complex. We know that the cinema operator will be the Odeon and that as soon as negotiations have been agreed with one or two other perspective tenants construction on the former site of the Job Centre will start. I'm sure there will be a press release as soon as we know.
In the meantime, the developers are arranging visuals to be installed on the hoarding. I think this is a positive message of intent from the developers/investors and should help stop some of the rumours.
