Orpington 1st has joined BIDs across the country in sending a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson calling for assurances that further financial support will be provided to businesses in the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors.
The announcement of ‘Plan B’ measures and guidance from health chiefs have led to a dip in consumer confidence across the country.
During the critical Christmas trading period, hospitality businesses have seen a wave of cancellations, and a drop in footfall has impacted retailers and leisure businesses.
Along with colleagues across the UK, we have called for 100% business rates relief for the remainder of the financial year, the reduced VAT rate of 12.5% to be extended through to March 2023, and grants of up to £15,000.
A copy of the letter has also been sent to MPs and councillors across the country, including ours here in Orpington.
