On Sunday 5th December a sea of Santas descended on Orpington town centre for the annual Orpington Santa Dash, organised by Orpington 1st Business Improvement District (BID).
Following a break in 2020 due to covid, the festive fun run saw hundreds of residents, including a few four-legged friends, don their Santa suits and paint the town red, with dashers of all ages from across Orpington and beyond ranging from first time runners to fitness fanatics.
Festivities began in Orpington’s Priory Gardens as Dashers gathered for a mass warm up led by The Fitness Link. A 2-kilometre course led Santas around the gardens and on to the high street, before crossing the finishing line in Market Square to the sound of seasonal hits.
All participants received a souvenir medal handed out by volunteers from Orpington Rotary.
Orpington 1st BID Manager Chris Travers said, “On behalf of the town centre business community I’d like to say a big thank you and congratulations to all our dashers. A drizzly start to the day did little to dampen festive spirit and there's been a brilliant atmosphere. It’s great to see so many Santas using local businesses throughout the day, too.”
Orpington 1st is also providing a free ice rink throughout December. Hosted outside The Walnuts Leisure Centre in partnership with Mytime Active, residents wishing to join the waiting list for tickets can visit orpington1st.co.uk and add their name via the eventbrite booking page.
