The Orpington Calendar for 2022 is available now in exchange for a donation to Bromley Homeless.

Following the announcement of this year’s Orpington Photography Competition winner, the Orpington calendar for 2022 is now available from Orpington Library.

The annual competition invites keen photographers to send in photos taken anywhere in a BR5 or BR6 postcode location, with selected entries chosen to appear in the calendar.

This year, Adrian Rowley's photograph 'Nuthatch in the Nesthole', taken in Goddington Park, was selected by the judges as the winning entry. The panel were impressed with the stunning clarity with which this small bird and its surroundings were captured.

Interestingly, the nuthatch is a resident bird seldom travelling far from the mature woodlands where they hatch, so it is great to know that they are living with us in Orpington!

Adrian said “I was in the park doing some landscape photography when I spotted the Nuthatch out of the corner of my eye. I popped back home to get a bigger lens and thankfully it was still there on my return. I was able to get around 40 shots and this one was my favourite.”

Adrian wins £100 to spend in an Orpington town centre restaurant of his choice, plus the honour of having his photo pride of place on the front of the calendar.

Photographs from Anand Balaji, Lizzie Davies, Edison De La Pena, Wen Fung, and Laura Williams have also been selected for the calendar and will appear alongside photos from town centre events, so many congratulations to them too.

Orpington 1st Executive Director, Sharon Baldwin, said “The competition was designed to encourage us to take a fresh look at our surroundings and yet again Orpingtonians have succeeded in capturing some outstanding and inspiring shots. With the town’s wildlife taking centre stage this year, it is clear that Orpington’s unique environment with its winning combination of town and country, makes it a very special and attractive place to live.”

The 2022 calendars are available from Orpington library in exchange for donations to Bromley Homeless. Please give generously to this important cause.

Orpington 1st BID Manager Chris Travers added, “A big thank you to everyone who submitted their photos, we have had a fantastic response this year and once again, the quality and variety was very impressive.”
