Ex-Army entrepreneurs on standby to put their stamp on high street food and drink scene, opening a new independent bar and restaurant in the old Post Office premises.
This summer, Sam Westlake and Tom Walker are set to open Orpington GPO (General Post Office), at 214 Orpington High Street, employing a a new team of around 20 local people.
Orpington GPO will open in the landmark site opposite the Walnuts Shopping Centre, having undergone a complete refurbishment, with a fresh design including features which celebrate its heritage. The building dates back to 1929 and is one of the oldest buildings remaining on the high street.
The GPO’s all-day menu will show a commitment to locally sourced fresh produce, using the best local suppliers, as well as unique cocktails and craft beers, making Orpington GPO a fantastic addition to the high street’s eateries and bars.
Unsatisfied with office jobs since leaving the army, Tom and Sam wanted to apply the skills gained over their combined 15 years’ service in the Parachute Regiment, to a new business venture. Since leaving the Army in 2016 they have successfully expanded a casual dining company, Framptons Café Bar & Kitchen, which has grown to three sites in the south of England.
This latest venture in Orpington is an independent project focused on delivering a unique and vibrant dining and drinking experience in Orpington.
Sam Westlake, Operations Director, said: “We recognised that our training and experience could be applied to a bar and restaurant business and we’ve learnt a lot as the business grown over the past three years. We are all really excited for the potential for Orpington GPO in this fantastic building in central Orpington, and can’t wait to meet our new customers.”
Orpington GPO opens its doors on Saturday 4th July.
