COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It's caused by a virus called coronavirus.
The strain now affecting the UK and other countries around the world is COVID-19 which is new and for which there is no antidote. COVID-19 primarily affects your lungs and airways. It is not 100% certain how it is spread. However, it appears to be spread from one person to another (e.g. cough, sneeze, touch etc.) Similar viruses are spread in cough droplets. It's very unlikely it can be spread through things like packages or food.
At Risk Groups:
People aged over 70
Those with underlying health conditions
Prevent the spead of the virus by:
Washing hands frequently
Catching coughs and sneezes with tissues, throwing them away immediately and washing your hands
If you don't have a tissue, use a flexed elbow
Practicing social distancing: Avoiding shaking hands, hugging or kissing people, sharing food, utensils, cups and towels
Avoiding touching your face (mouth, nose, eyes)
Latest Government Advice:
From this weekend (21st March) those with serious health conditions must be 'largely shielded from social contact for around 12 weeks.'
If you live with someone with a cough or temperature stay home for 14 days
Only contact the NHS if you need it
Mass gathering should not take place
School closure 'may be necessary'
Avoid non essential travel
Children should not be left with elderly relatives
