Volunteers from the Orpington Unit of St John Ambulance have spent the last three months demonstrating first aid to local residents so that they have the skills to save lives.
In the first three months of 2019 the Orpington St John Ambulance Unit held 5 open unit meetings for members of the public to come and find out more about volunteering for St John Ambulance as well as learn some first aid skills including CPR, use of AEDs, Choking, Strokes, Heart Attack, Burns, Bleeding, and Sprains, Strains, Fractures and Dislocations.
In early February they also had a stand at The Glades Shopping Centre in Bromley where they demonstrated CPR to members of the public. Many people took the opportunity to learn first aid including lots of teenagers.
All these efforts resulted in well over 100 people receiving first aid demonstrations and having a go themselves, recruiting new volunteers, and raising money to purchase new equipment so that the Unit can continue their charitable work.
