Volunteers from St John Ambulance in Orpington are offering local residents the chance to learn the skills to save a life at a number of free sessions in January, February, and March.
The demonstrations will be held on:
* 29 January, covering CPR for babies and children, and how to use a defibrillator
* 12 February, covering how to treat choking, heart attacks and strokes
* 26 February, covering how to treat bleeding and burns
* 12 March, covering how to treat sprains, strains, fractures and dislocations
Running between 7.45pm and 9pm, the sessions, held at TS Whirlwind, Park Road, St Mary Cray, Kent, BR5 4AS, will offer the public the opportunity to learn first aid, which could be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
You can also meet the team and learn first aid at The Glades Shopping Centre in Bromley on Saturday 9 February.
Unit Manager John Matthews said: “Why not start the new year off by learning something which could save someone’s life? Learning first aid is simple and only takes a few hours, but it can have an incredible impact on someone’s life.
“We’re also keen to encourage local people to consider volunteering with our unit; no previous experience is needed as full training, including first aid, is provided. These demonstrations could offer someone a taster session, so we’d ask anyone interested to come along, meet the team, and find out more about the voluntary work we do.”
The Orpington Unit was recently award the Metropolitan Police Trophy by Detective Chief Inspector Coucher, in the presence of the Lord Lieutenant for London, for outstanding commitment to public events in London during 2017. Volunteers at the unit provided first aid at a number of high profile events including the London Marathon, New Years Eve Celebrations, and Nottinghill Carnival, as well as local events such as Petts Woodstock, St Christopher Hospice Food Festival and Dog Show, and Chelsfield Village Fayre.
