The Mayor is taking bold action to clean up Londonís air and on 8th April 2019 the Ultra Low Emission Zone will start in central London to reduce harmful road transport emissions.
The ULEZ will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, within the same area as the current Congestion Charging Zone and in addition to the Congestion Charge. From 8 April, vehicles driving in this zone will need to meet tighter exhaust emissions standards or pay a daily charge to travel within the ULEZ.
To support micro-businesses to switch to cleaner vans, the Mayor has also announced a new £23 million scrappage scheme.
The ULEZ is just one of a suite of bold measures the Mayor is taking to make Londonís air safer to breathe, including introducing electric buses, Low Emission Bus Zones, and new zero-emission capable taxis.
