Contrary to the frequent doom and gloom stories for the high street, Orpington bucked the national footfall trend for the last two months of 2018.
Footfall for the month of November 2018 was + 4.6% across the town centre against a national benchmark of - 4.5%.
The yearly change for December 2018 in Orpington town centre of + 0.2% also holds up extremely well against the UK Average of -2.9%.
The town's occupancy rate also remains above the national average.
2019 is likely to be a challenging year for retail, and there will be more closures across the country. However, Orpington town centre remains well positioned within the national context with a strong hospitality, leisure and service sector and continued interest from investors.
The BID is continuing to work with the Local Authority, GLA and MHCLG to maximise opportunities.
