Residents, local business, school governors and potential students attended a consultation meeting this week, to have their say on a new college, proposed for development at Biggin Hill Airport.

The proposed London Aerospace and Technology College is a partnership between London South East Colleges, London Biggin Hill Airport and the Greater London Authority. It is a pioneering state-of-the-art facility that will provide exciting new career opportunities for young people across the region. The airport itself plans to create 2,300 jobs over the next 20 years.

Additionally, the proposed college will help address the chronic shortage of aviation and aerospace engineers, as well as meeting the wider skills needs of the industry globally.

Over 100 visitors attended the meeting, which took place at Women’s Institute Hall in Biggin Hill on Monday evening (10 September). Around 70 feedback forms were completed and the response to the plans was very positive. The planning application is now being developed, for which all comments and suggestions from the public will be taken into account.

Sam Parrett OBE, Principal and CEO of London South East Colleges, says: “Listening and responding to the views of local people is an essential part of any planning process. I am delighted that so many members of the local community came along to hear more about our proposals, offering such constructive feedback.

“We will be considering every single comment when developing our planning application to ensure that every comment, suggestion and concern is taken into account. We are confident that this project will bring many benefits to the local area and want to work with the community to ensure this happens.”

For anyone who couldn’t make the meeting, the display boards and feedback form can be downloaded from the College’s website: www.lsec.ac.uk/bigginhill. They will also be on display at the Lookout café at the airport until the end of the week.
