Hundreds of Santas descended on Orpington last Sunday, as the town centre held its very first Santa Dash.
Organised by Orpington 1st in partnership with MyTime Active, the inaugural event saw hundreds of men, women and children, don their bright red suits and make the the run from the glorious (if somewhat drizzly) Priory Gardens up the High Street, finishing in Orpington's revamped Market Square.
Participants in the 2km fun run varied from more experienced runners to whole families running for the first time.
Orpington 1st BID Manager, Chris Travers, said, "We're delighted to partner MyTime Active in bringing this celebration of fun, fitness and festive spirit to Orpington town centre. Today has been another great demonstration of the positivity within our community here in Orpington."
The event began with a Christmas-themed warmup led by the Mytime Active team in Priory Gardens, before the dashers set off through Orpington high street, turning into the Walnuts Shopping Centre, passed the ODEON cinema and across the finish line in Market Square, where every Santa received a souvenir medal.
Orpington 1st Executive Director, Sharon Baldwin, said, "We're thrilled that so many families have participated in Orpington's first Santa Dash. A big thank you to all of those who took part, braving the weather and making it such a memorable event."
Walnuts Leisure Centre Manager, Paul Robson, added, "The Santa Dash is all about getting families and the local community active at Christmas, whilst soaking up a fabulous, festive atmosphere. I hope this is the first of many and we look forward to continuing to work with Orpington 1st."
