Improvements to Orpington's Market Square are nearing completion.
Following a successful bid by Orpington 1st Business Improvement District (BID) and Bromley Council to the GLA High Street Fund, work on the square started in Summer 2016 with large scale feature signage installed into the public library.
This summer, as well as complete resurfacing of the square, new trees have been planted and a replacement for the 1970’s fire escape leading down from the Leisure Centre has been installed.
The improvements are part of the business community and council initiative to improve Orpington town centre as a place to live, work and visit.
Sharon Baldwin, Executive Director of Orpington 1st BID said, “We are delighted to have been part of the original bid for this investment and that the quality of this central public space is being improved in line with the business development taking place throughout the town centre. We look forward to working with the Walnuts shopping centre to activate the square with a calendar of events that entertain customers and benefit business.
In addition to the public realm improvements on the square, which will include new seating and lighting, the area will also provide facilities for the launch of a brand new market.
