Every Tuesday Until: 31st Dec 2019
Park Road, St Mary Cray

The weekly first aid training meeting for the volunteers of the Orpington Unit of St John Ambulance.

The Orpington Unit meets on Tuesday evenings for the volunteers to learn and develop their first aid skills in preparation for providing first aid at local events in and around Orpington.

We have training on CPR, using AEDs, bleeding, fractures, heart attacks, burns, as well as do team building activities and social events.

If you wish to attend the meeting please contact John Matthews. It is a great way to find out if you would like to become a volunteer, which we are sure you will.

By volunteering for us you can:
- learn saving skills,
- save a life,
- help your local community,
- join a family and make life long friends
- learn life skills that make your CV stand out
- You will also gain access to our Wellbeing Portal.

All that we ask is that you attend as many unit meetings at you can and volunteer to provide first aid at one event per month.

Our volunteers come from Orpington and the surrounding areas including St Mary Cray, St Pauls Cray, Petts Wood, Green Street Green, Chelsfield, Locksbottom, Pratts Bottom, Knockholt, Hayes, West Wickham, Bromley, and Chislehurst.

RE: query about the possibility of my wife doing this training next summer 2020.
My wife, Hayam Busrum, has some experience in the field, even though she did not study nursing. She worked with a heart surgeon in his clinic, cleaning wounds and doing other duties, giving injections, etc. and before that she worked also with an ENT doctor. Her total previous experience is some 12 years. But this was a long time ago, with some training I am sure it will refresh her knowledge and sharpen her skill. Her English is ok. She passed the test for citizenship over a decade ago.
Now I am an academic, and am currently working abroad teaching English-Arabic translation and interpreting, but we have been coming in the summer (during my holiday break) every year for the past seven years.
However, next summer my wife Hayam with my two daughters (Rema and Lejane) will be staying here. I have talked to her about volunteering and she does not seem to be confident; even though her previous experience stretched over 12 years, as receptionist at the doctor's as well as assistant. I must point out that she does not have a university degree, but can communicate well. She seems to me to know a bit about various medications and injections, but she does not like to boast about them.
I feel that she can contribute to the community a great deal, particularly as my two daughters are going to be in the secondary school next year in the borough.

I'm a resident of Bromley and would like to attend the volunteer first aid training meeting to be held on 31st Dec 2018 at Orpington. could you please guide me as to how to enroll for the same? Also do you have similar events being organised in and around Bromley in the near future? If so could you please keep me informed of the same?

Hi St Johns, We are holding an open day on the 05/11/17. I was wondering if you would like to attend and advertise your good work and maybe demonstrate some basic first aid skills to the members of public.Hopefully raise some funds also. Please let me know if this could be possible.

Hello. I'm looking for someone to come and help us with our Brownie First Aid Badge. I have a hall in Chislehurst booked for the 8th July 2017 and would be looking for 2 x 2 hour sessions with maybe a 20 or 30 minute module added on depending on price and availability. Is this something you would be interested in ?
I gave left my details and look forward to hearing from you.
