The Glass Menagerie is a ‘memory play’. It’s about love, conflict and a yearning for what might have been.
Tom Wingfield is the narrator and also a character in the play. Therefore, what you witness as an audience may not necessarily have happened as it is drawn only from his memory.
Amanda, his mother is a faded Southern Belle, who yearns for the comforts and admiration she received in bygone years. Her main aim in life is to get her painfully shy, socially awkward daughter Laura a husband.
We are then introduced to Jim ‘The Gentleman Caller’ who’s appearance in the Second Act alters everyone’s life forever…
Sprinkled with humour and pathos this award winning play has spawned several tv and film adaptations and continues to move audiences the world over.
