Knitting for the Intensive Care Baby Unit at the The Princes Royal University Hospital (The PRU), Orpington. Anyone welcome - you don’t have to be an experienced knitter. No need 2-aPly just come and make friends! HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC ALL KNITTERS ARE KNITTING FROM HOME FOR THE TIME BEING.
We are knitters who natter so come and spin a yarn while you knit a yarn for a worthy cause. We won’t let reality get in the way of a good yarn!
The Princes Royal University Hospital (The PRU) confirmed that they need two items specifically - they use a lot of blankets and mittens.
The blankets will need to be approximately 50cm x 50cm (20” x 20”), this means they are big enough for all their different sizes of babies. Also, they have a lot of babies who have a cannula in for them to receive their antibiotics – the mittens are perfect for covering the cannula so that the babies don’t pull them out or scratch themselves with them. To this end we will need to make the mittens longer than normal, say 15cm (6”), then it means they cover the cannula and don’t fall off.
The Drop-In Knitting Club runs mostly on Wednesdays from 1300hrs subject to holidays. For further information please contact Lin Harewood on 01689 877010 - please leave a message - or by e-mail cbcoffice@virginmedia.com.

Hi Karen
Yes the Knitting Club is still running. There are no restrictions I can think of. What restrictions were you thinking of?
Sorry for delay in responding due to holiday.
Hi Jackie

Hello
Report ReplyI’ve come across your page and seen that the knitting club is closed at the moment. I wondered if knitted items are being accepted by the hospital still - done a lot of knitting during lockdown? I live in Orpington.
Many thanks
Joyce
